Data Science for Creative Industries

Undergraduate Program

For decades, data science has been used in product R&D and business operations.  With the arrival of the digital age, marketing and communication has fueled the demand of data science in an unprecedented way. Creative economy refers to industries where the creative element is central to what is being produced, for example, advertising, film and television, broadcasting, publishing, architecture, design, music, visual arts, sports analysis, and performing arts. Data analysis has become essential in understanding consumer behavior, predicting consumption patterns, and deciding which products/services will succeed in the creative economy.  From personalized targeting, building sales forecasts, to generating artificial intelligence-powered content, Data Science for Creative Industries prepares students to obtain the skills and knowledge to succeed in the future.

Career Paths

Although the use of big data in creative industries is relatively nascent, it is in high demand. There are plenty of career options for graduates with specialized training. Future occupational opportunities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Curriculum 

The BS in Data Science is a 125-semester credit curriculum with three major components: major requirements (77 credits), core general education courses (42 credits), and free electives (6 credits).

Mathematics, Statistics (28 Credits) and Computer Science  (21 Credits)
Creative Industry Concentration (18 Credits) 

General Education Core

The College requires that all undergraduate students, regardless of major, complete core general education courses in nine distributions. Students of the Data Science program can meet the Quantitative Reasoning distribution requirement through their major courses. As a result, 42 general education credits from the Liberal Arts and Sciences program will be required.
